“Thank you so much – the pictures are incredible,
we absolutely love them and a lovely thing to return from honeymoon to.
They are so wonderful.”
Before we moved home earlier this year, Highbury Hall was one of our most ‘local’ venues. It’s a place we’ve always had good experiences at and we always loved that the building represents a significant slice of history for the city of Birmingham. It’s been quite some time since we photographed a wedding at Highbury, but in September we got the chance to make a long-overdue return visit, for the wedding of Laura and Adam.
The couple booked us earlier this year and had chosen St Peter’s church in Harborne, Birmingham for the service.
We started the day as usual with the morning preparations. Laura and her bridesmaids were at her parents’ home while Adam chose to get ready at their own home just a few minutes away from the church. Both houses were busy with people so it was nice just to be able to melt into the background and capture the events as they unfolded.
At St Peter’s, Reverend Graeme Richardson conducted the service which was nicely personalised for Laura and Adam with just the right dose of humour. He was also friendly and welcoming. It’s always good when we’re allowed to just get on with our work without unnecessary restrictions, so thank you Revd. Richardson!
Following the service, we planned to do a few quick pictures of the couple and the confetti throw. However before any of that could happen everyone wanted to congratulate the couple with hug. This is by far one of our favourite points in the entire wedding day. We like to get in close and really record that interaction as well as we can. It’s a lovely part of the day to capture and here we had plenty of opportunities.
The wedding party moved on to the leafy suburb of Moseley for the reception at Highbury Hall. For every wedding, wherever it may be held, we always try to incorporate as much of the venue into the photographs as possible. Highbury has quite compact grounds, but still has plenty of opportunities. However, it also has a gorgeous interior to use. On this particular day we had quite strong directional light to work with which gave a lovely, contrasty look to the pictures.
Adam and Laura were such a great couple to work with. Always happy for a few more photos, calm and a pleasure to work with throughout the day. A big thank-you to the couple for allowing us into their big day.
