“We love it, we are so pleased with them. I cried lots!” – Hannah
In December, we photographed our second wedding at Brockencote Hall – the day after our first! Hannah and Grant had booked the Saturday between Christmas and New Year and as we had worked there the previous day (see Liz and John’s blog post), we took the opportunity to stay the night. After a soak in the bath and Brockencote’s fantastic cooked breakfast, we were ready for day two at this lovely Worcestershire venue.
In contrast to the previous day’s mixed weather, the Saturday was clear, bright and sunny, with barely a cloud in the sky all day. It was cold of course, but for a December day the weather was simply gorgeous.
All of our work for this wedding was to be at Brockencote, so we had no driving to do at all. We met with the couple around midday when Hannah arrived with her bridesmaids to start their preparations. Hair and makeup had already been done, so it was really just a case of final touches and getting their dresses on.
Like the previous day, the ceremony was set for 2pm and again we had two really nice registrars conducting the service and the room was packed with guests.
Following the wedding ceremony came the drinks reception and this took place in the main bar area. With it’s large windows and slatted blinds, it made for some very dramatic pictures in the bright afternoon sun.
The last hour of daylight is known in photography and film circles as ‘magic’ or ‘golden’ hour and on this wedding there could not have been a better description. As we took Hannah and Grant for a tour of the venue grounds, we had the most gorgeous golden light to work with. It was very different to the same time the previous day, but just as beautiful.
Onto the meal and for this Hannah and Grant had decorated the tables with with a theme of horse-racing. Each guest had a personalised brochure, featuring the menu and also a form-sheet of each guest as though they were race horses. Very funny and nicely done. We were particularly happy to see one of our pictures from Hannah and Grant’s pre-wedding shoot adorning one of the brochure pages 🙂
Following the meal and speeches we moved into the evening party. The couple’s first dance was followed by a performance by ex-One True Voice singer Matt Johnson. We’ve met Matt at weddings in the past and he’s always good fun to work with and a great singer.
As we wound up our coverage and said our goodbyes, we came away from Brockencote with a sense that over the last two days, we’d really got to know this venue. It’s a place a very much look forward to returning to. And to Hannah and Grant – thank you. You were brilliant to work with and we wish you all the best for the future!
