“They look amazing, really happy!”
Earlier in May, we photographed a wedding at a venue we’ve long wanted to work at. Known for it’s beautiful gardens and gothic architecture, we made our way to Coombe Abbey near Coventry, for the wedding of Kelly and Phil.
The mixed weather from previous weeks seemed a distant memory as we arrived at Coombe Abbey on a gloriously sunny and warm summer day. The civil service was held in the Abbeygate building, a short walk from the main hotel. In contrast to the clear blue skies outside, the interior was very dark and moody. The service itself was conducted on the stage, giving everyone a great view as Kelly and Phil read our their personalised and very funny vows to each other. We’d actually been in this room in the past, on our own combine hen/stag night during one Coombe Abbey’s Medieval Banquets. 🙂
Following the service, drinks were served on the main rear terrace of the hotel – overlooking the gardens and public park – while we got to work with the formal groups. The meal was then served in the High Court room. As time during the drinks reception was tight, we opted to do all of the couple’s main photo session later in the day. This worked well as the couple were more relaxed at this point and light more favourable. Coombe Abbey is a large venue with many areas to explore, inside and out. Since there was no other wedding taking place on the same day, we were able to use most of the areas unimpeded, so we had plenty to work with. We also took Kelly and Phil out to the public areas of the adjoining park so we ended up with a really nice contrasting set of images of them.
This was a really lovely day and Kelly and Phil had a fabulous time with their friends and family. Here’s a few pictures from the day…
