“Thank you so much for the fantastic pictures. They are everything we hoped for and more.” – Liz & John
2013 has been a great year for us in terms of working at venues we’ve not previously visited. One of the venues we’ve long had on our “need to do” list, is Brockencote Hall. This country mansion, which lies between Bromsgrove and Kidderminster in rural Worcestershire. Brockencote Hall is an upmarket wedding venue with an outstanding reputation for food.
Early last year we took on a Brockencote wedding for between Christmas and New Year, swiftly followed by a second – for the very next day! Our first was Liz and John. They booked after seeing our work online and after a meeting at the venue last March.
The weather during the preceeding week had been horrendous. Gales, heavy rain and low temperatures were affecting the entire country and as we watched the forecast, it seemed we were going to have a very wet day indeed. However, a day or so before the wedding, the conditions began to ease and although still mixed, we end up with really nice conditions at the time we needed them.
We started with a split morning, with Sarah covering the boy’s preparations at John’s parents’ home in Bewdley, and Rob meeting up with Liz and her bridesmaids at her parent’s house in Kidderminster. This made for a really nice, relaxed start to the day before getting to the venue.
Although Liz had her hair and makeup done at home, she wisely chose to use the lovely Brockencote suite for her final preparations. The service began at 2pm and we had two excellent registrars conducting the proceedings. Polite, friendly and professional, they gave Liz and John a smashing wedding ceremony in the bright cross-light of Brockencote’s room and gave us no unnecessary restrictions.
As we moved into the drinks reception we noticed the weather was starting to take a downturn, so rather than risk getting people wet we opted to do the formal family groups indoors. Although a bit of a squeeze due to space, we got them all done nice and quickly before taking Liz and John outside for their own photo session.
By this time, the showers during the drinks reception had cleared up and the rain clouds had given way to a beautifully soft and creamy final hour of daylight. Just lovely conditions in which to take pictures and the timing of the change could not have been better.
Our first wedding at Brockencote Hall then was a great one to work on. We were really impressed with it as a venue – everything ran on time and the staff – especially the wedding organiser Lucy – were excellent and very welcoming. The building and grounds made for a lovely backdrop and the variation in weather kept us on our toes. Of course, Liz and John were brilliant to work with as were their guests. We’re also happy to report that Brockencote’s reputation for food is fully deserved 🙂 A really big thank you to the couple for looking after us so well during the course of day – we hope you love your pictures!
