“Thank you!!! The pics look great and I had a massive smile on my face whilst watching the slideshow 🙂 We love them!!! “
This year, our full wedding season began in April and our second wedding of that month saw us return to Malvern College for the wedding of Susie and Mike.
Malvern College – a beautiful venue we last saw in 2013 – is nestled into the eastern side of the iconic Malvern Hills. It’s a prestigious private school which has been hosting weddings for a few years now. It offers a variety of options for ceremonies and receptions to suit weddings large or small.
Many of Susie’s family and friends had flown in from her native Germany and a good number of the 200 guests had arrived from other countries near and far. This truly was an international wedding.
Last time we were here, the beautiful Memorial Library was used for the ceremony but for Susie and Mike, they had chosen to get married in the splendid Malvern College Chapel. Strictly-speaking, although the Chapel is an integral part of the site, the only people who can get married there are alumni of the college itself.
The inside of the Chapel is positively cavernous. Calling it a mere chapel really doesn’t do it justice. It’s more like a small cathedral, with a lovely airy feel to it. The reverend was very welcoming, friendly and conducted the service with a nice dose of humour.
The running order of the day was a little different to what we normally experience. Following the hour-long chapel service and confetti-throw, the whole wedding party made their way inside into the large hall known as Big School. In here was held the drinks reception where the couple had plenty of time to mingle with their guests while a Dixie-style band played in the background.
Following the drinks came a planned break in the day. At this point everyone except the couple left the venue, either to go home or to return to their hotel, with those attending the evening celebrations returning a couple of hours later. We used the break to get Susie and Mike’s ‘couple’ photos done around the college grounds in the afternoon sunshine.
In the early evening, guests started to assemble again in time for the main wedding meal – a black tie event, held in the Gryphon Room, in the college sports complex. The room had been completely transformed into an indoor marquee and provided a fantastic backdrop for the speeches, meal and evening party.
This was a ‘big’ day in every way but even with such a large guest list it still retained the feel of an intimate wedding. This was simply down to the couple allowing plenty of time for everything to happen, giving them the opportunities to talk to people properly and enjoy everyone’s company. This wasn’t a day where the schedule was tightly controlled by the venue and even the more formal parts of the proceedings were undertaken with a sense of happiness and humour.
Susie and Mike (and indeed their guests) were lovely to work with as were the staff of Malvern College – especially Adela. A really lovely wedding to photograph. Hope you like the pictures…
