H&A

Small wedding at Greyfriars House & Garden

As Worcestershire wedding photographers, we’ve photographed many weddings across our home county county but rarely do we get to venture into Worcester city centre itself.  This wedding — photographed by Robin, was at the National Trust property Greyfriars House & Garden and is a perfect example of the kind of relaxed, people-focused day that we love to work on.

The oldest buildings in the city of Worcester are to be found on Friar St and one of the very oldest buildings is Greyfriars House & Garden.  Having gone through a long history Greyfriars was passed to the National Trust in the late 1960’s and they have cared-for and run it ever since.  The venue hosts a limited number of weddings per year and for a short portion of the day, but the building and grounds are absolutely perfect for a wedding with a smaller guest list.

H&A had eighteen guests, with their civil ceremony, drinks and photos all taking place at Greyfriars.  This was a lovely, relaxed couple of hours for everyone attending and an absolute delight to photograph.  Since no extra travelling was required there was ample time for the ceremony itself, portraits, group photos and of course picture of the couple on their own.

As a venue, Greyfriars has so much more to offer than a register office.  It’s beautifully photogenic building with lots of nooks and doorways where the light is absolutely gorgeous.  A cobbled pathway leads to the terrace area where a drinks reception can take place and there are period details everywhere.

When using a register office, the wedding party is often barred from returning into the building for photos or due to inclement weather   This doesn’t happen at Greyfriars!  And for smaller weddings, our coverage time is often limited to a few short hours, so having the photo locations all in one location is a huge bonus.

Just a few steps away from the main house is Greyfriars’ walled garden – beautifully maintained by the NT staff and volunteers and with numerous spots which are ideal for photos of the couple.

We must also mention the Greyfriars staff who were fantastic on the day and a pleasure to work alongside.

Enjoy the photos…

About Greyfriars House & Garden

A beautiful venue for small weddings, in the heart of Worcester

Greyfriars House and Garden is owned and maintained by The National Trust.  Built by a wealthy merchant in the late 1400’s, Greyfriars was a home to well-to-do families until the late 17th century.  At this point the house was split and became a mixture of homes and businesses for the next 200 years. In the 1930’s, Greyfriars faced demolition however the house was rescued and restored and eventually transferred to the National Trust in 1966.

Weddings can be hosted at Greyfriars throughout the year on Sundays and Mondays, with the venue available on an exclusive basis for two hours.  And although this doesn’t sound long, manty of the smaller weddings we photograph are covered for the same amount of time.  It’s plenty for for guests to arrive, for the ceremony, drinks and photos.

Many of the small weddings we photograph are covered for the same time.   For weddings with a smaller guest list, Greyfriars makes for an absolutely beautiful venue.

Wedding ceremonies are conducted in the Great Hall, with a maximum capacity of 45 people.  For a legal ceremony, the registrar can be arranged separately through the local registration office.  Following the ceremony is self-catered drinks reception in the walled garden with full use of the building and grounds for photos.
