We’d been looking forward to Lauren and Ben’s village wedding since they first booked. Originally from south Wales, the couple moved to Worcestershire for their work. And so, they decided to hold their entire wedding day within their (new) home village of Ombersley, just outside of Droitwich, with most of the celebrations taking place at The Crown & Sandy’s hotel on the main high street.
Ben got ready at their new home, while Lauren and girls prepared for the day in one of the hotel rooms. It was really nice from our perspective to have everything happening within a short distance, especially as the weather decided to misbehave for the first half of the day!
The couple got married at their local parish church – St Andrews, just a short walk from The Crown & Sandys. The church feels enormous inside and makes for a grand backdrop for a wedding ceremony. The vicar was a familiar face to us – Reverend Stephen Winter, who we’d seen at another wedding in Worcestershire a couple of years prior and he conducted the ceremony with his usual warmth and humour.
Outside, the rain showed no signs of stopping so after a few hugs everyone made their way outside under umbrellas to do a confetti throw and the couple made their exit under a sword arch from Ben’s historical re-enactment group!
With the church ceremony complete it was time to brave the rain and make our way to The Crown & Sandys (pronounced ‘sands’). The function room had been set up by The Wedding House of Droitwich and looked absolutely stunning with its huge floral arrangements.
What is particularly nice about The Crown and Sandys is the access it has to the apple orchard in the field behind it – and we took advantage of this and a few photo spots around the village when the rain finally stopped later in the day. We must also make mention of the food. We didn’t have the same food as the wedding guests, but throughout the rest of the evening we heard various comments about “the best wedding food ever” and “superb”. Ourselves, we opted for burger and chips from the main pub menu – and to be honest we had exactly the same reaction. Absolutely delicious.
Ben and Lauren’s day was so much fun to photograph as was their crowd of friends and family. A big thank you to everyone. Enjoy the pictures…
The Crown & Sandys is small hotel in Ombersley and has a history going back to the 1700’s. The unusual name is derived from the link between King Charles I, his son Charles II and the aristocratic Sandys family from the time of the English civil war.
These days, The Crown and Sandys is a popular 6-room hotel, restaurant and pub located on the main Ombersley high street and its array of black-and-white, half-timber buildings. The hotel can also host events such as weddings in its main function room.
