Bookings for winter weddings – especially those on the smaller side – tend to come in with relatively short lead times. Unlike summer weddings, those held in the cold of the new year are far easier to secure dates for and if the right venue is picked, they can be warm, cosy and an absolute delight to work on.
Emma and Regan got in touch less than a month prior to their January date. Their day was to be held at Coombe Abbey in Warwickshire – a venue we’ve worked at many times in the past. But their plans were a little different to most we’ve seen there – an elopement booked at short notice, with just a handful of their immediate family and friends – just 12 people in total, including themselves.
Coombe Abbey is a large and busy hotel, but it’s smaller suites are well suited to a more intimate celebration such as this. The Walnut suite can be used for weddings or private dining and it was here that Emma and Regan’s legal wedding ceremony took place and also the afternoon tea meal they’d booked for later in day.
Emma and Regan wanted the photography to cover the core parts of the day – so the latter part of Emma getting ready in one of Coombe Abbey’s suites, the ceremony itself, drinks reception and a little of the afternoon tea. This all fitted into four hours nicely and due to the small size of the wedding party it was covered by just Robin.
Following the ceremony and after a celebratory drink in the bar it was time for a confetti throw and a few group photos in the courtyard before taking Emma and Regan off for a whirlwind tour of the venue and grounds for some photos of the two of them alone. Although it was cold, it was also dry so we were able to venture out a little into the wider grounds of Coombe Park.
A big thank you to Emma, Regan and their guests for being such a nice crowd to work with. Enjoy the photos…
