The two of you

Getting the best couple photos on your wedding day

Some time together

One of the most enjoyable and creative parts of the day is when we take you away for a little while for some ‘hero’ photos of the two of you alone.    The pace slows down, there’s no distractions and you finally get away –  for as much or as little time as you’d like.

The photos of you two alone are some of the most important pictures of the entire day, but they will also be the first chance you have to be together, away from the crowd.  We want you to enjoy these photo sessions and see them as a nice break from the hubbub of the reception.

How long you want to give to couple photos is your choice – at some venues we’ll happily do them for ages, but if you just want 10 minutes’ worth – that’s fine!  Don’t feel under pressure to do more than you want – we’re really not precious about this!

How we photograph the couple

People sometimes assume that the ‘couple shoot’ is all about posing, but with us, it’s really more about enjoying some downtime away from the hectic proceedings of the wedding day.

We’ll give you enough direction so you look good to the camera, but what we really want is for you to enjoy the quiet time together, to interact and bounce off each other.  Just to be yourselves.

Whether you’re a lively couple who exude energy, or quieter people who love a bit of peace of quiet – we’ll make the couple shoot reflect your personalities and create gorgeous pictures with relaxed, natural feel.

Couple photos for summer weddings

For weddings in summertime, we usually do a short session in the afternoon so you have lots of time with your guests. But the best photos tend to happen during the evening when the light can be gorgeous.  So for weddings in summer months, we’ll usually do a longer session – often 30mins+ after the meal & speeches but before the evening party kicks off.  That said, we only want to do these sessions for as long as you’re comfortable with, so if you want a shorter (or longer!) session just let us know.

Couple photos for autumn/winter weddings

For weddings in darker months we often have to get all of these pictures done in the afternoon before you go in for your meal.  As a result we often recommend having a slightly longer period of time set aside for the afternoon drinks reception.

Keeping photo session enjoyable and quiet

We keep couple photo sessions private and quiet.  This is *your* time together and we really don’t want you to dread this part of the day because we really do try and keep things as relaxed and enjoyable for you as possible.

Occasionally, a guest or member of staff  will try to tag along with a camera  – we will politely ask them to return to the party as we do not have anyone follow us for this part of the day.  We want you to relax and be yourselves and not distracted by Uncle Fred and his new camera!  Having someone else follow will simply put you off and slow the whole process down.

Showing off your venue

You’ve chosen your wedding venue because it works for you – the combination of atmosphere, staff, food, aesthetics and of course the photo opportunities.

Whether you’ve chosen somewhere grand and stately, rustic and homely, modern and stylish or simply somewhere that has some interesting features and a bit of garden – showing off what your venue has to offer is something we love to do on every wedding.

Finding the gorgeous light
(not just sunsets)

Finding beautiful light to work with during the couple shoot is always a priority for us and whatever the conditions, we’ll take advantage of them! Balmy summer evenings, crisp winter afternoons, overcast autumnal days and even glaring sun all provide their own advantages.
