Lapstone Barn, located near Chipping Campden in Gloucestershire, is a beautiful Cotswold wedding venue which has seen many purposes during its history, but has been a dedicated wedding venue since 2018.
We’re Robin & Sarah, Midlands wedding photographers based in Worcestershire and we work all over the Midlands counties. Jo and Tom’s winter wedding was our first visit there, on a chilly and windy February day. It’s always a bit exciting to work a place we’ve never seen before and we came away with a really positive impression of this lovely venue.
Jo and her bridesmaids prepared for the day in Lapstone’s dedicated ‘getting ready’ area named The Hayloft. To keep travelling to a minimum, Tom and the fellas opted to get ready a short drive away at the Eight Bells Inn in nearby Chipping Campden. A wise choice, especially for a winter wedding when daylight hours are more limited.
Lapstone Barn is less than an hour away from us and we had a really nice morning drive to Jo and Tom’s wedding. The Cotswolds is a particularly lovely part of the country so on this day, travelling to work was really quite enjoyable! This was a bitingly cold, but beautifully sunny winter’s day – and also really quite windy. Like with wet weather, strong winds mean that we need to keep indoors a little more than usual. So with that in mind, we did group photos inside the barn and had Jo and Tom out just long enough to get their couple photos done in the venue surroundings. Jo’s veil put up a valiant effort against the Cotswold winds, but eventually gave up the struggle and wafted away across the car park just before we got back inside the venue.
Our experience photographing a wedding at Lapstone Barn
As a wedding venue, Lapstone Barn is in a beautiful setting, surrounded by fields all of which provide plenty of photo opportunities. The courtyard garden also provides additional spots for pictures of the couple.
However our main impression of a wedding venue doesn’t come from the building or the surroundings – it’s from the staff – and the team at Lapstone were simply terrific. Friendly, efficient and flexible when needed – everyone knew what they were doing and did so really well. We came away feeling like this was a place we would look forward to returning to. And the food! The food was absolutely lovely :-)
A really big thank you to Jo and Tom for asking us to photograph their wedding. We loved it and it was a great first wedding of the year for us. Enjoy the pictures…
Lapstone Barn is a wedding venue located near Chipping Campden in the North Cotswolds, Gloucestershire. Completely surrounded by fields and countryside, the site was a working farm until the late 1980s when it was turned into a workshop for making furniture, before becoming a dedicated wedding venue in 2018.
Venue features:
The Northwick Barn is Grade II listed and made from beautiful Cotswold limestone, with oak floors, thick timber beams and natural acoustics. It’s licensed for civil wedding ceremonies and can seat up to 150 people.
The Courtyard Garden sits in the middle of the venue and works well as a space to drink and mingle, or as a location for an outdoor wedding ceremony.
